Alert staff at bank and remittance firm foil kidnap scam

Author: A KIDNAP scam was thwarted by alert staff from a bank and a remittance company who promptly called the police on Monday afternoon.
Police said that the victim, a 55-year-old housewife, received a call at about 2.30pm while she was at home, from a male caller who spoke to her in Mandarin.

SEC says 900 defrauded in mortgage scam (Reuters)
Reuters – Four promoters and a Phoenix-based company have been accused of defrauding at least 900 investors across the United States in a mortgage lending scam, the Securities and Exchange Commission said on Tuesday.

SEC files complaint against Phoenix company (AP)
AP – The Securities and Exchange Commission has charged four people and a Phoenix-based company with securities fraud for orchestrating a mortgage lending scam that raised nearly $200 million from investors.
