Watch the language – it’s earnings season
IT’S earnings season and most of the focus rightly is on the financial numbers reported by companies.
So far, the figures haven’t been bad. UOB posts $470m net profit
OCBC Bank led the way on Monday and now United Overseas Bank (UOB) has trumped the tipsters by posting better-than-expected numbers, with an upbeat forecast added for good measure.
UOB yesterday reported net profit of $470 million for the second quarter – 22 per cent down on a year ago but better than analyst expectations of $441 million, according to Reuters.

SGX turns corner with Q4 profit rise
THE rush back to the markets by investors has allowed the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to finally turn the corner on its falling profitability.
Net profit for the fourth quarter ended June 30 inched up 0.9 per cent to $91.17 million from the same period last year.
