HDB launches 1,534 new BTO flats
THE Housing Board has released 1,534 flats at two new projects, in the latest move to allay widespread fear of a public housing shortage.
Yesterday, it launched 750 build-to-order (BTO) units in Punggol and 784 in Woodlands. A further 1,000 BTO flats in Sengkang and Sembawang are slated for launch next month.
The launches are in line with the HDB’s plan to offer an islandwide spread of 7,000 BTO f… more

New condo sales fall for 4th straight month
(SINGAPORE) The number of new private homes sold in November fell 26 per cent month-on-month to 600 – the fourth straight monthly fall since July’s peak.
November sales were also the lowest since January, when just 108 units were sold.

Thumbs up for ending estate agents dual role
A PROPOSAL to ban property agents from representing both the seller and buyer in the same transaction has generated strong public interest – with many giving the idea the thumbs up.
This practice, widespread in the HDB resale market, leaves the agent with a clear conflict of interest.
But there is likely to be resistance from some agents who stand to lose commissions if it is implemented.

(SINGAPORE) HDB upgraders account for a shrinking share of private home transactions as property prices rise and mass-market launches taper off.
In contrast, private housing dwellers are buying more property as economic sentiment improves, keeping the real estate market afloat.
According to property consultancy DTZ, buyers with HDB addresses picked up 4,0… more
Inflation forecast to be higher in 2010
(SINGAPORE) Inflation is now expected to be higher in 2010, as a result of increased Housing and Development Board property values.
The government has revised its consumer price index (CPI) inflation forecast to between 2.5 and 3.5 per cent, from a one to 2 per cent range previously.
This is to account for the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore’s recent revision of annual values of HDB properti… more
What do HDB numbers say?
THESE days, both the Housing Board (HDB) and home buyers seem to be grappling, in their different ways, with statistics.
First-time home seekers have complained in recent media reports and in letters to The Straits Times’ Forum page that it is tough to get a new HDB flat. Some said they had failed to get a home despite trying as many as 18 times.
The HDB responded recently by releasing its own rec… more

Move to ban one agent for buyer and seller under study
THE Government is contemplating a move to ban property agents from engaging in the widespread practice of representing both the seller and buyer of an HDB flat in the same transaction.
The idea is set to get the thumbs up from home buyers and sellers, but could leave some agents unhappy at a potential loss of commission income.
The proposal was released yesterday by the Ministry of National Develo… more
